Post-Conference Excitement
In late September, I attended a conference for Christian writers. It’s a wonderful community of supportive authors who are more than willing to share their wisdom and experiences. As much as I love learning in the classes, my favorite part is getting to meet other people. Some notable authors I met or saw again include Susan May Warren (the sweetest woman!), Robin Lee Hatcher, Karen Witemeyer, Terri Reed, Sami Abrams, Mindy Obenhaus, and so many more.
As exciting as all that was, I also tried something new and totally out of my comfort zone: I met with editors from two different publishing houses.
I sat down with the editors at Sunrise Publishing and made a good connection there. My other appointment was with an editor from Harlequin’s Christian line, and I pitched a romantic suspense idea to her. She liked it and asked me to send her the full manuscript. For those who might not know, that means she wants to read the story and consider it for publication. It isn’t a contract offer, but it’s the best news I could have gotten from that appointment!
Needless to say, I’m furiously working on that manuscript now (none of which was written prior to the pitch). I’m almost at 10,000 words so far. The goal is 55,000 words for Love Inspired Suspense.
Want a glimpse into the story idea?
It’s set in a small Montana town. The hero works in law enforcement, and the heroine is a K9 trainer. They’re exes who end up working together to find a missing girl and her father. They must figure out whether the two disappeared by choice—or whether someone took them and is willing to kill to keep them from being found.
And yes, there is an awesome K9 in it.
There’s a lot of writing ahead of me, and I’m excited to see where this story goes. If you’d like to follow along, you can join my newsletter for writing updates, book recommendations, and a peek behind the stories. I’m glad you’re here for this part of the journey!
